The future is starting to look safer already and a big step isn't too far away. Nissan announced that eight of its 2018 models will come with automatic emergency braking (AEB) as a standard feature.

The upcoming 2018 Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Altima, Leaf, Pathfinder, and Murano are slated to have standard AEB, putting Nissan ahead of many other automakers who are aiming to standardize the feature by 2022.

What is AEB?

Automatic emergency braking helps to save lives by helping drivers to reduce the impact of collisions or avoid them altogether.

How does it work?

AEB uses radar technology to read how fast you are going and how far you are from the vehicle in front of you.

If it senses the potential for a collision (such as when the vehicle in front of you suddenly slows down and you don't), it will warn you audibly and visually to take action. If you do not react in time, it can automatically engage the brakes to help you avoid a crash or at least dampen the effects of one.
